The Current Controversy Around Unity.

Following hundreds of layoffs, Unity faces severe backlash.

For those unaware, Unity is the name of the company behind the Unity engine, one of the industry's most popular game engines. It's most well known for it's use for games such as Fall Guys, Among Us and Pokémon Go.

However, the company has found it's self under fire after laying off 4% of it's workforce, leaving hundreds unemployed. This goes against a statement from Unity CEO, John Riccitiellol, who reportedly told employees that the company was not in any financial trouble and wouldn't be laying off any employees.

Additionally, Unity also announced it would be acquiring Ironsource. This was met with severe backlash, as Ironsource has a history of distributing malware, to the extent that it was even blacklisted by Microsoft.

Several developers have spoken out against the acquisition.

The controversy didn't stop there either, as the CEO of Unity, in a recent interview with PocketGamer.biz, referred to mobile game developers who didn't work monetization plans into their games early as "some of the biggest f****ing idiots". The statement was not originally meant to offend, as he also referred to them as "the most beautiful and pure, brilliant people". However many developers did not appreciate what the CEO thought of them.

Since then, the CEO has issued an apology, claiming it was a sentence, "I wish I had never said".

It's unknown how Unity will handle the controversy going forward, however more updates will be provided as the news unfolds.
